DID YOU KNOW
Madeira wine casks are wooden barrels traditionally used for aging and maturing Madeira wine, a fortified wine produced on the Portuguese island of Madeira. These casks play a crucial role in imparting unique flavors and characteristics to the wine. Madeira wine casks are typically made from a variety of wood types, including American oak, French oak, and chestnut.
Heating Process: One distinctive feature of Madeira wine production is the “estufagem” or heating process. The wine is placed in casks and subjected to heat, which accelerates aging and caramelizes the sugars in the wine. This process can last for several months or even years.
